Nicholas Mahut was born on January 21, 1982, in Angers, France. He began playing tennis at the tender age of 5. Mahut will for the game embraced within himself from his childhood. Nicholas first trained at Beaucoze tennis club. Nicholas Mahut was born in the family that had already three younger brothers, from his father, Philippe (retired computer engineer) and his mother, Brigitte.

He had three younger brothers namely: Dominique, Stephane, Jean-Philippe and an older sister, Delphine. .Nicholas's mother pa s sed away in March 2005. He is native French by Ethnicity. He currently resides in Boulogne-Bilancourt, France.He is currently coached by former players Thierry Ascione and Nicolas Escudé.

Prior to his education, Nicholas began playing tennis at the age of 5. After that, Mahut joined tennis club at the age of 11. In 1998, Nicholas had already become champions of France for 15 and 16 years old and 17 and 18 years old.He always admired legends like Micheal Jordan, Pete Sampras, and Yannick Noah.

Nicholas began his professional career at the age of 20. On 17 July, Mahut along with Benneteau won their first challenger title at Contrexeville, defeating Jean-René Lisnard and Olivier Patience in the final.Not long after, at the Marseille Open, Mahut recorded his first ATP Tour-level win, defeating the world no. 121 Neville Godwin from South Africa in singles match.

In 2007, Mahut was a finalist at the Queen's Club Championship but lost in three sets to former world no. 1 Andy Roddick, despite having a championship point, 6–4, 6–7, 6–7. En route to the final, he defeated second-ranked Rafael Nadal?.

Injuries and some bad results towards the end of 2008 resulted that in 2009 which saw Mahut slip out of the world's top 100. This made sure another rough year ahead of him, as Mahut was forced to come through qualifying in order to play in the bigger tournaments.In 2013, Nicholas won first ATP Tour singles title and reached first Grand Slam men's doubles final.In 2015 pair of Mahut and Pierre-Hugues-Herberts won their first Grand-slam men's double title.

Mahut holds the record for most points won in a tennis match, with 502 points. He also holds the Wimbledon record for most games won in a match by a losing player with 91. He and John Isner also hold the record for the longest match in history that lasted three days. Mahut was ranked No. 1 in ATF- double rankings in 2016. On 13 June, Mahut clinched his fourth ATP Tour singles title by winning the Rosmalen Gra s s Court Championships singles title for the third time.

The veteran player Mahut is married to his wife named Virginie. There are no details found about when did the pair tie their knot. But the couple first met each other in 2007. Moreover, he also has one child a son together with his wife. His wife gave birth to their son named Natanel on 18th August of 2011. After marrying Virginie, he also became the step-father to the son of Virginie from her previous relationship.Both couples are happily married and no traces of their extra-marital relationship are found.
