NBC Fires Matt Lauer Following Sexual Harassment Accusations

by Joey Jordan,

NBC Networks has taken actions against the Today host, Matt Lauer after some women came forward with sexual misconduct allegations against him. After serving on the network for two decades, the network terminated him on Wednesday.

A female colleague complained accusing him of sexual misconducts during the 2014 Sochi Olympics. Moreover, the NBC news has confirmed that the alleged behavior continued in the workplace even after the game.

Two more women made complaints about Lauer after his termination later Wednesday, The New York Times reported.

Today's co-hosts Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie got emotional while announcing Lauer's firing where they told the viewers at the top of the live broadcast that they were ''heartbroken'' over his departure but didn't yet know all of the details.

NBC News' chairman Andrew Lack had said in a memo to the employees that the complaint prompted a serious review and represented the violation of the company's ethics and standards.

The chairman said it was the first ever complaint registered against Lauer since he took over as an anchor in 1997.

Hours after Luer's departure from the network Variety published an article depicting him as a serial hara s ser of women working on his show. According to their report, in a two-month long investigation, they talked to three women who claimed they'd frequently been hara s sed.

Lauer's departure comes amid sexual misconduct complaints against the high-profile men working in the entertainment industry, media, and politics. Meanwhile, just a week ago, the talk show host Charlie Rose was fired by PBS, CBS, and Bloomberg following sexual hara s sment accusation allegations by eight women.
