Mother Survived Brutal Attack; 11 Inches Blade Embedded In Her Body For Two Weeks

A Mother, Kume Bayisa Miraculously Survived A Brutal Attack That Left Eleven Inches Blade Embedded In Her Back For Two Weeks.

Kume Bayisa miraculously survived two weeks with a broken blade embedded in her body. The weapon had torn her liver, main heart artery, and pierced one of her lungs.

Despite her deteriorating condition, the doctors could not spot the weapon for a week. Later, another team of medics took a further one week to find out the right tools to remove the embedded blade.

Twenty-five years old Bayisa was at home in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with her four months old son when her husband stumbled home drunk. When she asked and accused him of drinking too much, her husband grabbed a machete and stabbed her in the back.

Soon after, Bayisa was rushed to the nearby community hospital where the doctors reported that she was stumbling into the clinic coughing and was struggling to breathe.

Bayisa was kept in practice for a week before transferring to Menelek II Referral Hospital on 2nd January, where her condition started growing worst.

While Bayisa took an x-ray, the doctors found the blade inside her body. The doctors then had to spend another week to gather tools and experts from all over Ethiopia to remove the weapon.

Fifty-four years old surgeon Dr. Luis Arrazola masterminded the seven hours operation at the nearby Bethel Hospital. He later claimed that the operation was an unusual case and was the most fantastic moment in his entire career.

He added:

We put three clamps – a clamp in each place – on the right atrium of the heart, the inferior vena cava, and the portal vein and hepatic artery of the liver.

Bayisa revealed that the first clinic did not carry out an x-ray and she had no idea the machete was still stuck inside her body.

She bled internally from 26th December to 9th January until the operation was operation.

After spending two days in the intensive care unit, she was finally discharged from the hospital in March.

Bayisa is now back to her home and revealed that she is very happy and very strong.
