Michael Johnson is a retired American sprinter who won four Olympic gold medals and eight World Championships gold medals. He is known as world record holder and Olympic record holder and has won eight world championships record. His steely perfectionism, stiff upright running position, and very short steps made him the fastest man on earth. Johnson also became the only male athlete in the Olympics history who won both the 200 meters and 400 meters events at the same Olympics.

The talented sprinter was born on 13th September 1967 in Dallas, Texas to Ruby Johnson, a truck driver, and Ruby Johnson, a school teacher. He holds an American nationality and belongs to Afro-American ethnicity.

Johnson attended the Skyline High School in Dallas and broke the school record for the 200-meter run. When he was just ten years old, he started running and later on, won numerous titles for indoor and outdoor sprints. Later on,  joined Baylor University and completed his bachelor’s degree.

Michael Johnson started his career as a sprinter. As his family background was not so good from an early age he was involved in earning. He won the second position at the USA Indoor Championship and earned the world 200 m title in Tokyo, where he created a record by winning the largest margin in 1936 Summer Olympics.  

Furthermore, he won the 400 m U.S. title and was able to create a record when he ran the 200m  in 19.66 seconds. That time he was able to beat the record of Pietro Mennea, a sprinter and made his achievement strong till 17 years.  

In 1996 he won the Olympic title with an Olympic record timing of 43.49 seconds and also created the world record after he completed his 200m race in 19.32 seconds. After the end of the season, he earned the James E.Sullivan Award as the top amateur athlete in any kind of sports in the whole U.S. He was also named ABC's Wide World of Sports Athlete of the year.

Over the course of his career, he set the world record in the 200m for two times and twice set the indoor 400m world record. After athletics, the talented player was elected to the United States Track and Field Hall of Fame in 2004. Moreover, in the same part, his 200m performance during the 1996 Olympics was named the greatest track and field moment of the last 25 years.

Currently, Johnson works as a sports commentator and regularly appears for the BBC in the U.K. as a commentator. 

Johnson also became the co-captain and a coach for Godspeed, a flag football team in the summer of 2018.

His second wife is Armine Shamiryan who is a chef. In an interview, Michael said that he met Armine randomly in Los Angeles through friends in 2003. The loving couple has been still sharing a wonderful marital relationship.
