Gomez started his career from the VfB Stuttgart II in 2005. He played for the club 2003-04 and 2004-2005 seasons of the Regionaliga Sud. He scored six goals in 19 appearances during the 2003–04 season, and 15 goals in 24 appearances in the 2004–05 season.
He moved to Bayern Munich for a Bundesliga record transfer fee of £27 million, on May 26, 2009. He played for the club until 2013.
