Lucas Biglia

Milan and Argentina’s midfielder, Lucas Rodrigo Bigilia debuted his career from Argentinos Juniors in 2004. He spent seven seasons with Anderlecht, making 312 appearances in the Belgian Pro League and winning four league titles.

He previously played for the Argentina U20 national team and won the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship. He was a part of the national team that reached the final at the 2014 World Cup. He was included in Argentina’s 35-man provisional squad.

Nicknamed El Principito (the "Little Prince", in Spanish) due to his diminutive stature, he is well known his ball-striking ability from outside the area and is an accurate free kick and penalty kick taker.

Early Life of Bigilia

Bigilia was born on January 30, 1986, in Mercedes, Buenos Aires, Argentina. He is Argentine by nationality and belongs to the mixed ethnic background.

Biglia has an older brother, Christian, also a footballer, who went on a trial at Royal Antwerp in August 2009, but the trial was unsuccessful.

Bigilia's Career

Bigilia started his career from an Argentine sports club based Argentinos Juniors, signing his professional contract in 2004. He debuted for the club on July 1, 2004, in a 2–1 victory over Talleres in playoffs.

He moved to Independiente for an undisclosed fee following his performance at the South American U-20 Championship. He made his debut for the club on 26 February 2005, in a 1-0 loss against Lanús.

He joined Belgian Pro League club Anderlecht in July 2006. He signed a four-year deal with the club for a transfer fee of €3 million.

He made his debut for the club against K. Sint-Truidense in the opening game of the season, in a 4-2 victory. He was honored as the Young Professional Footballer of the Year in January 2007 for his impressive performance at the club.

In the 2011-12 season, Bigilia signed a new contract that would have kept him at the club until 2015. He scored his first goal of the season, in a 2–2 draw against Monss on 21 August 2011. He captained the club for the first time on September 15, 2011, in a 4-1 victory over AEK Athens. He became the club’s Player of the Year for the season for his performance.

He signed a five-year contract with Italian side Lazio for an undisclosed fee. Biglia cost Lazio about €8.4 million, including €750,000 agent fee as per the financial report by Lazio.

He played his first game for the club against Udinese Calcio in a 2-1 victory. He scored his first goal for the club on 22 December 2013, in a 4–1 loss against Hellas Verona.

Biglia was appointed as the new Lazio captain in the 2015–16 season, following Stefano Mauri's departure (eventually returning to the club soon after). He captained his first match in the Supercoppa Italiana match, losing 2–0 against Juventus.

Biglia officially signed a contract with Milan on July 16, 2017, that would keep him at the Milan-based club until 2020, in a deal that reportedly cost Milan €17 million.

He first appeared in the international game for the Argentina U17 squad. He was part of the team that won South American U17 Football Championship. He also represented the nation in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

He scored his first international goal on November 17, 2015, in a 1-0 victory over Colombia in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers in Barranquilla. He was named in Argentina’s 35-man provisional squad for the 2018 World Cup in May 2018.

He married his childhood friend, Cecilia Ambrosio on December 20, 2011. The wedding ceremony took place at The Place Tokeh Sands in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

The couple is blessed with a daughter (born in 2009). He was granted the Italian Citizenship through his Italian heritage after living in Belgium for three years.

Bigilia returned to Argentina in July 2008, after his father died of a heart attack. He spoke out for the first time with Het Nieuwsblad in October 2008, saying that losing his father affected him.

Biglia was reportedly in hospital in his homeland in June 2009, claiming that he had H1N1 (Swine flu) virus, but the test revealed at the end that he did not.
