Diaz-Balart, who had been attended by a group of doctors for several months due to a state of profound depression, killed himself this morning.
Fidelito, who had the highest public figure among Fidel Castro's 11 children, was born in 1949 to Castro and his first wife Mirta Diaz-Balart- he is the only child of Castro with Mirta. Fidelito started living with his mother and her family in the US after his parent divorce.
When he visited his father in Mexico in 1955, the late Castro refused the boy go back to his mother. However, he was later abducted by armed men working for his mother's family. His custody was finally provided to his father after several years of tug-of-love.
