In a moving interview with You magazine, the 28-year-old reality star admitted she cried almost every day for a year after moving in with Ferdinand in 2017. The couple had moved in together around two years after Ferdinand's first wife and mother of his three children, Rebecca Ellison's death.

In the interview, she recalled her early days in Ferdinand's house as:

Nothing in the house was mine; everyone called it “Rio’s house. All the photographs were of Rebecca and the children. I had no place. I remember after six months becoming obsessed with wanting Molton Brown Rhubarb & Rose soap that I always have at home, just to have a smell I knew.

She added,

I bought a bottle and put it downstairs but it got taken away. As stupid as it sounds, that crushed me, but what was making me feel more isolated was if I said those things out loud people would think I was pathetic and selfish.

Kate also revealed her struggle to fit in as the stepmother to his children, Tate, Tia and Lorenz Ferdinand. She said that she kept on messing things up, like forgetting to put a gym kit in the kids' schoolbag or missing emails from the kids' teachers. She added,

And I would get into a total state because I felt I was messing up in front of so many people who didn't want me there.

Kate said she 'lost herself' after she couldn't win acceptance from Rio's Father, Julian.

Meanwhile, Kate and former Manchester United defender said in their family doc u mentary titled "Rio And Kate: Becoming A Step Family" that it became a 'relationship saver.' The doc u mentary will be broadcast on BBC1 on Sunday, 9th February, at 9 pm.

Rio, on the other hand, said,

I remember her trying to talk to me but I was never really listening to her. I'd be thinking, "What are you going on about? I have three kids who have lost their mother and grandmother.

Rio continued,

I wanted her there but I couldn't see how difficult it was for her because I was so locked into my own grief.

Rio Ferdinand and Kate got married in September 2019. The lovebirds exchanged their vows in front of their friends, family, and relatives at the D Maris Bay Hotel in Turkey.
