Karan Johar

Introduction

Karan Johar was born on 25th May 1972 in Mumbai, Maharastra, India. Informally he is referred as KJo. He is an Indian film producer, director, costume designer, screenwriter, television personality, and actor. He is better known for his work in Hindi films. His father Yash Johar is a producer and founder of Dharma Production and his mother is Hiroo Johar.

Education and career

Karan Johar attended Greenlaws High School in Mumbai. He also studied at H.R. College of Commerce and Economics which is also in Mumbai. He has earned master’s degree in French.

In 1989, Karan Johar started his career in the entertainment industry as an actor in the Doordarshan serial named ‘Indradhanush’. He refers Yash Chopra, Raj Kapoor, and Sooraj R. Barjatya as his inspirations. Karan made his debut in the direction from the blockbuster romance film named ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’, in 1988. His next two films were drama films named ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham…’ and ‘Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna’. 

Film Director

In 1995, Karan Johar entered the film industry as an a s sistant director on Aditya Chopra’s film name ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’. The film is regarded as the landmark in Hindi cinema. In 1988, he then made his own directorial debut with the blockbuster romantic film named ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’. In 2001 Karan directed his next family drama film named ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham…’. 

Karan Johar, in 2010, directed a film named ‘My Name Is Khan’, which was a counter-terrorism drama. In 2012, he directed film ‘Student of the Year’. 

Producer and Costume Designer

In addition to Karan Johar’s directorial work, he has produced several films by other directors under the Dharma banner. He has produced a number of films and the major success includes ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho’ ‘Dostana’, ‘I Hate Luv Storys’, ‘Agneepath’, ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’, ‘2 States’, ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya’, ‘Kapoor and Sons.’

As a costume designer,  Karan Johar has designed for Shah Rukh Khan on many films like ‘Dil Wale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’, ‘Dil To Pagal Hai’, ‘Duplicate’, ‘Mohabbatein’ and ‘Om Shanti Om’.

Karan Johar hosts a very popular celebrity-based talk show named ‘Koffee with Karan’. He has also served as a judge on the reality shows like ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa’ and ‘India’s Got Talent’ since 2012.

Awards and achievements

In 1999, Karan Johar won National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Entertainment for film ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’. For the same movie, in the same year, he also won Filmfare Best Director Award, Filmfare Best Screenplay Award, and Filmfare Best Director Award for the film ‘My Name is Khan’. In 2002, he won Filmfare Best Dialogue Award for film ‘Kahi Khushi Kabhi Gham’.

Personal life

The current relationship status of Karan Johar is unknown but he definitely is unmarried. It is also rumored that Karan is gay but the confirmation about the rumor has not been made, yet. He has kept his personal life secret from the media. So there is no any information about Karan’s girlfriend, affair or any relationships. The estimated net worth of Karan is $200 million.
