Torry enrolled at the Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri and earned BA in ma s s communication/broadcast journalism. At that time, he pledged Omega Psi Phi fraternity. In 2001 and 2002, he received The President's Lifetime Achievement Award and an Honorary Doctorate Degree of Humane Letters respectively.
