Canadian-American Television Host Alex Trebek Reveals His Cancer Diagnosis

Longtime television host, popularly known as the host of American television quiz show Jeopardy, Alex Trebek revealed he has been diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer.

The 78-year-old television personality took to his Twitter on Wednesday revealing his health issues to his Jeopardy fanbase. He said, "just like 50,000 other people in the US each year, this week I was diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer."

He further added that the prognosis for the disease is not encouraging, but still, he vowed to fight the cancer. He said,

Truth told, I have to. Because under the terms of my contract, I have to host ‘Jeopardy!’ for three more years.

Mr. Trebek has been hosting Jeopardy since 1984 and he has received several awards and honors for his work. Here is his post:

In the post, Trebek noted that despite the disease's low survival rate he will fight it and he said jokingly that he has to fight it at any cost as he has signed the contract as the host of Jeopardy for the next three years.

Mr. Trebek has over thousands of episodes of the popular syndicated show on his name, make him one of the most well-known people on television in North America. In 2014, Trebek set the Guinness World Record for "most game show episodes hosted by the same presenter."
