Jane Hawking was born on 29 March 1944, in St Albans, Hertfordshire, United States America as a Jane Beryl Wilde. George Wilde is the father of Hawking and Beryl Wilde is the mother. Jane Hawking grew up in St Albans, Hertfordshire. She attended Westfield College for languages studied, where she met Stephen Hawking in the early 1960s.
After years on her doctoral thesis through Westfield College and in April 1981, she got her Ph.D. in medieval Spanish poetry. When Jane Hawking was compelled to do a Ph.D., therefor that Hawking would have an academic identity of her own within Cambridge.

However, following her remarriage, she continued to support and love her ex-husband through his health problems as he continued to work.

After getting married to Stephen Hawking while he was ill, Jane became the victim of depression. While giving an interview in 2004, she said that her Christian faith giver her hope while dealing with depression.
