Three People Including The Shooter Killed In An Open Fire At A Video Game Tournament In Florida

  • Two people were killed during a video game tournament in Jacksonville, Florida on Sunday, 26th August.
  • David Katz, 24, from Baltimore attended the tournament who later started the gunfire with a handgun.

Two people killed and 11 more injured in an open fire at a video game tournament in Jacksonville, Florida on Sunday.

The 24-year-old shooter, identified as David Katz from Baltimore, opened the gunfire during the Madden NFL 19 video-game contest at a waterfront shopping and dining area. The shooter later took his own life, authorities confirmed.

The eleven injured people were taken to a nearby hospital, where nine of them had gunshot wounds, Jacksonville Sheriff Mike Williams announced at a press conference.

Williams further said that 12 rounds of firing were recorded on the tournament's live video, where a man can be heard saying "Oh, f***k, what'd he shoot me with?" while other can be heard screaming.

Police seized the shooter's vehicle from outside the hall where they said the man stayed in the area overnight.

A witness, Marquis Williams said he and his girlfriend, Taylor Poindexter were waiting for their pizza order when they heard the gunshot, however, they didn't think it was a gunfire at that time. He said,

Initially, we thought it was a balloon popping, but there weren't any balloons in the room. Then we heard repeat shots and we took off running.

Sunday's shooting is the latest of America's endemic ma s s shooting. About a month before, five people were killed in a Capital Gazette in Maryland. Two months ago, 10 lost their lives at a Santa Fe High School shooting in Texas while in March, 17 people were killed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Florida.
