The 75-year-old actress Mary is a native of Tulsa, Oklahoma, United States. She was born to a professor's father, Gwendolyn Lucille, and mother, Bradley Eugene Place. Place graduated from the University of Tulsa, majoring in art and speech.

Then Mary moved to Hollywood to become an actress and writer. In 1970, she started working as a production assistant for The Tim Conway Comedy Hour. Tim Conway and Norman Lear produced the series.

Career span from the 1970s to the late 1990s

Afterward, Mary wrote a script for an episode of All in the Family where she also sang "If Communism Comes Knocking on Your Door, Don't Answer It." Later she was featured in the third season of an episode of M*A*S*H.

In 1976-1977, Mary portrayed Loretta Haggers on the satirical soap opera Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman. The series featured Louise La s ser, ex-wife of Woody Allen, as the main character.

That show was the turning point in Mary's career. She won the prestigious Emmy Award for best-supporting Actress in a comedy series for that show. She then appeared in several films and television shows until the late 1990s.

Career from 2000 to present

In 2000, Mary provided the voice for the TV series The Wild Thornberrys. Next year, she featured in the TV series Further Tales of the City, films My First Mister, The Safety of Objects, and Nailed.

During that time, Mary appeared in several films and movies. Some notable works are Mama's Boy (2007), Smashed (2012), and The Breakup Girl (2015). Additionally, she was featured in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, The Handler, The New Normal, and so on. Last year, she appeared in the film The Hollars, directed by John Krasinski.
