An Iowa father died over the weekend while he was trying to save his daugther, 5, from a dog attack, several outlets reported.

Fox News reported the Lee County Sheriff's Office received a call saying a dog attack at a Fort Madison house near the Old Iowa State Prison around 10:31 in the morning.

Authorities responding to the residence saw "a large dog" attacking Robert Joseph Quick, 33, who was lying on his back in the yard. Quick was taken to the Fort Madison Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Lee County Sheriff's Office released a statement saying:

Mr. Quick had defended his daughter and undoubtedly saved her life by his actions.

Initially, it was unclear about the cause of Quick's death, however, as per the GoFundMe page set up to a s sist his funeral cost, Quick died of a heart attack on the scene.

As per the obituary, Robert Joseph Quick is survived by his wife Dawn and their four children.
