12 People Killed In A Brutal Mass Shooting In Virginia Beach Municipal Complex

• 12 people were killed and several others injured after a gunman opened fire at a government building in Virginia.

Twelve were killed, and many others were injured after a frustrated gunman opened fire at a government building in Virginia.

Police chief James Cervera said the suspect was identified as DeWayne Craddock, a disgruntled city employee in Virginia Beach. The suspect was killed at the scene during an exchange of gunfire with police.

Officers entered the building

Police chief James Cervera said in a press release that four officers entered the building and tried to stop the attacker during which he was shot dead.

Mr. Cervera further said,

I want you to know that during this gun battle, basically the officers stopped this individual from committing more carnage in that building.

Detained a rifle and a handgun from the scene

A police officer was injured during the gunfire that unfolded shortly after 4 p.m. on Friday, 31st May at Virginia Beach Municipal Center.

Police detained a rifle and a handgun from the scene, believed to have been used in the attack.

One victim was shot dead in a car outside the building, and the rest were found dead over three floors of the government building.

Victim's identification

The victims have been identified as  Richard H. Nettleton, Alexander Mikhail Gusev, Herbert “Bert” Snelling, Joshua A. Hardy, Christopher, Ryan Keith Cox, Mary Louise Gayle, Laquita C. Brown, Tara Welch Gallagher, Michelle “Missy” Langer Robert “Bobby” Williams, Kelly Rapp, and Katherine A. Nixon.

Police evacuated the employees in the area and put the space into lockdown. Mayor Bobby Dyer called it the "most devastating day" in the history of Virginia Beach.

He added,

The people involved are our friends, coworkers, neighbor, colleagues.

Dyer couldn't hold his tears back as he addressed the press conference.

As per the records by the US tracking website Gun Violence Archive, the attack was the 150th ma s s shooting in the United States so far in 2019.
