Ukrainian Military Helicopter Crashed Killing All Four Crew Members

All four crew members on board on a Ukrainian Soviet-designed military helicopter Mi-8 crashed late Wednesday in western Ukraine, Ukrainian land forces announced on Thursday.

The announcement also revealed the helicopter crashed in the western Rivne region during a training fight. The reason for the crash has not been revealed yet.

Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky extended his condolences and ordered newly-appointed general staff chief Ruslan Khomchak to probe the accident. The president said,

Our army should not be losing people during games and drills.

Ukraine brought four refurbished helicopters into service in December. The Mi-8 helicopters were widely used to transport pa s sengers and supplies to remote sites during the 1960s. Recently, Mi-8 helicopters have been involving in several accidents.

18 people died in a crash in Siberia last August whereas 13 service members on board were killed in a Kazakhstan Mi-8 helicopter crash in Kyzylorda Oblast.
