Dutch Baseball Player Loek van Mil Died At 34

  • The former Dutch baseball star Loek van Mil died on Sunday, 28th July at the age of 34.

Former Dutch baseball pitcher, who is famous as the tallest baseball player ever with the height of 7 ft. 1 inch, has died. He was 34 years.

The Netherlands' baseball and softball a s sociation, KNBSB announced van Mil's death in a statement on their website on Monday, 29th July.

The organization said in the statement van Mil pa s sed away on Sunday evening "as a result of a fatal incident." However, other details on his death are yet to be revealed. The statement read:

Van Mil had a long and successful baseball career in which he played in the Dutch big league for HCAW and Curaçao Neptunus.

It continued,

The pitcher played as a pro in America for the Minnesota Twins and the Los Angeles Angels and in Japan for Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles.

The death news comes just months after he was involved in a serious hiking incident. He was admitted to an Australian hospital last December after he sustained several injuries when he hit his head on the rocks.

He suffered skull fractures and bleeding on the brain, during the hike in the outskirts of Brisbane. As previously reported, van Mil was lying unconscious in bushland for almost 24 hours before a hiker discovered him.

Meanwhile, van mil had recently announced his retirement from professional baseball in the wake of the accident. He was one of the tallest baseball players in the baseball history, tying the record with the former Arizona Diamondbacks prospect Ryan Doherty.
