Glenn Weiss Gets Engaged To Girlfriend Jan Svendsen At Emmy 2018

"I want to call you my wife!" The well-known television director and producer Glenn Weiss told his longtime girlfriend Jan Svendsen during his acceptance speech after he won the Emmy for Outstanding Director for a Variety Special for The Oscars.

Weiss' unique way of proposal caused the audience to erupt into cheers and applause. Following his revelation of his mother's death, Weiss gestured his partner, Jan Svendsen saying:

You wonder why I don't like to call you my girlfriend? Because I want to call you my wife.

The audience, packed with Hollywood's finest actors, burst into applause before Weiss said: "I didn't ask yet!" After a few moments of applause, Svendsen made it to the stage where Weiss got down to one knee and proposed his girlfriend. Weiss told:

This is the ring my dad put on my mum’s finger, 67 years ago. And to my sisters and brothers, I didn’t swipe it, dad knows I have it, OK?

He added,

I want to put the ring that my mom wore on your finger in front of all these people and in front of my mum and your parents watching from above, will you marry me?

Weiss thanked the academy following a 'Yes!' from Svendsen. And the audience gave a standing ovation to the newly engaged couple.
