Corey Christiansen
Corey Christiansen is a famous and a prominent jazz guitarist, he is also an educator, singer, writer, and performer. He grew up from a musical family, his father Mike Christiansen taught him to play guitar at a very young age of five. He spent most of his childhood learning the guitar and music.
By 2000, Corey served as the senior editor and guitar clinician for Mel Bay Publications until fall 2007. Corey has numerous clinics and performances around the world and began having the fan not only by teaching also by his performance.
After he finishes high school at Sky View High, Corey attended Utah State University and earned his bachelor’s degree. Later, Corey went to University of South Florida, Tampa Florida to study with legendary jazz guitar educator, Jack Petersen. He received his Master's degree in 1999. In 2000 he took the place of his educator, Jack Petersen and started teaching music.
During his time on Mel Bay Records, he released “Awakening,” Awakening stayed consecutively twelve weeks on the JazzWeek chart, holding number 16 in March 2005. MB3. Jazz Hit Vol. 1 was famous worldwide, collaborating with an all-star band featuring fellow guitarists Vic Juris and Jimmy Bruno and being backed by legendary
Danny Gottlieb on Drum and Jay Anderson on the ba s sist, Jazz Hit Vol. 1 made three weeks as the number one jazz recording on North American jazz radio.
Corey Christiansen has published numerous albums with Mel Bay and has conducted countless guitar clinics and concerts across the country and beyond including Europe, South Africa, and Australia.
His first live performance “Vic Juris & Corey Christiansen: Live at the Smithsonian Jazz Café” was released in July 2006. His performance was given four-star by Jazzwise-reviewer Mike Flynn.
In 2007, he returned to his native Utah as the Director of Curriculum for The Music School, During this time he actively tours and playing all over the US and different cities in Europe.
Corey signed a contract with Origin Records by the fall of 2007. He released two records by the end of 2008. Coreys released his debut 'Roll with it' featuring Matt Jorgensen(drums), Pat Bianchi (organ) and David Halliday (sax). This album proved Corey was a menacing player, arranger, and composer. In May 2010, his second album 'Outlaw Tractor' was released.
He is being identified as one of the most preeminent jazz guitarists in the world. By the end of 2008, Corey a s sumed duties teaching at Utah State University and highly regard Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University. Because of his selfless service in the music industry, he brings a 'real world' environment to the cla s sroom.
He has also performed at many famous festivals and venues such as John Pisano’s Guitar Night in Los Angeles, the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., the Umbria Jazz Festival in Perugia, Italy, the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, the Clearwater Jazz Festival, the Monterey Next Generation Festival, the Daytona Beach Jazz Festival, the Syracuse Jazz Festival, the Park City Jazz Festival, and the St. Louis Jazz Festival.
