Before the Smothers brothers; Tom and his brother Dick Smothers settled in the wine country, they hosted the famous comedy show, Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour for CBS from 1967 to 1969. The show got into a controversial dispute with the network censors over their satirical humor which eventually led CBS to cancel the show.

Following the departure from the CBS show, Tom Smothers continued to land roles in several television series and films as well as commercials spots. Smothers went on to receive a special Emmy award in 2008 when the brothers were voted into the Television Academy Hall of Fame.
