CNN Philippines senior anchor and correspondent Amelyn Veloso pa s sed away on 24th August 2017 due to cancer at the young age of 42. According to some sources, she was battling with liver cancer for three years.
During her last hour in the hospital, the veteran broadcast journalist was surrounded by her husband Rodney, son Gab and her mother Amelita, and now they all are grieving her death. Despite her illness and even undergoing chemotherapy and surgery, she still hosted her shows until she was strong enough.
The news was also announced by co-host Senator Richard Gordon on theTV5 show Aksyon Solusyon which they two used to host together. In the series of tweets, Gordon shared his condolences towards late Amelyn Veloso.
Gordon started his series of tweets with a picture of himself with his late co-host where he writes:
“The TV and radio industry has lost one of its most amiable & professional hosts. Kate and I send our heartfelt condolences to the family of Amelyn .”

The senator added in his next tweet,
Im heartbroken over the loss of a great gentle & lovely creature of God, Amelyn Veloso. Not just a TV professional but a kind-hearted person

He then concluded by writing,

Her other friends, colleagues and even politicians have posted a tribute to her on their social media. Youth leader JV Ejercito also expressed his sympathy through his tweet.

In one of the tribute segment, CNN Philippines senior anchor Pia Hontiveros also expressed condolence towards her colleague. She said:
“In her final moments, she was surrounded by her immediate family— her husband, Rodney Zapanta, and their 14-year-old son Gab; and her mother, Amelita,”
She added:
“We always thought of her as beautiful, inside and out. There was not a single mean bone in her body. [She was] the kindest and gentlest of persons who bake cookies and pan de sal for us,”
Hontiveros also disclosed that despite her illness Veloso still worked hard and impressed all with her positive attitude.
