China Is Planning To Build A Scientific Research Station On The Moon Within Ten Years.

According to the state news agency Xinhua, China says they will be building the first ever moon base in the next ten years.

The head of China National Space Administration, Zhang Kejian, announced the plan of setting up shop in the moon’s South Pole, yesterday, Wednesday. Along with the project, they are planning for an ambitious spate of off-world plans including a new orbital space station, lunar probes, and an unscrewed Mars mission.

All those plans and goals are lofty, but if these plans get successful, they will cement China’s place as the new leader in space exploration.

China’s space agency previously had discussed plans of replacing the International Space Station when retired in 2021 or to build up a base on the moon.

But now, Kejian’s comments clear that China makes an intention of launching the first parts of the space station within the next year and the lunar and Mars probe will be launched later this year.

It remains mysterious how China will be prioritizing the steps towards getting astronauts prepared to spend extended time on the moon. However, if the country wants to deliver within ten years, China’s space administration will immediately need to get moving.
