Charles S. Dutton is an Amercian actor, director, and producer born in Baltimore, Maryland. He was imprisoned in his teens for some crimes. He has given more than 34 years to the industry since his debut. Dutton is popular for his role in the movie Rudy Dillion and the TV series Roc. He debuted from the movie Cat's Eye in 1985 and a television series, Miami Vice the same year.
Early Life And Education Of Charles S. Dutton
Dutton was born on the east side of Baltimore, 30th most populous city in the United States on January 30, 1951, which was Tuesday. He is the son of a truck driver and has a sister named Barbara Dutton. Dutton's nationality is American and his ethnicity/race is African- American.
He attended Hagerstown Community College and Towson Universtiy of his hometown but dropped out in seventh grade. Dutton enrolled in Yale Drama School afterward to study theatre and acting.
He was an amateur boxer with the name " Roc" but was imprisoned at the age of 17 when he got into a fight which led to him killing the other person. He served his seven years time in prison for manslaughter and was again sentenced to three years for having possession of a deadly weapon but his sentence got extended to 7 more years when he a s saulted an on-duty officer.
While in prison, he was impressed with a play Day of Absence, leading him to create a theatre group in prison. The warden allowed to create the group under one condition that Dutton completes his GED. He had a two-year college degree when he finished his imprisonment. He first realized his ambition and pa s sion of acting in prison and thus enrolled in Yale University after being released.

Dutton debuted in the movie and television industry in 1985 with a movie called Cat's Eye and TV series, Miami Vice as Lieutenant Pearson. Prior to debuting in the movie industry, he made his Broadway debut with Ma Rainey's Black Bottom. There was no stopping to his career after that, he started making appearances in several TV series and movies in the following years.
From 1985, he was cast in TV series like Miami The Equalizer, Cagney & Lacey, Homicide: Life on the Street, Oz, Ed, TheSopranos, My Name is Earl, Dark Blue, Criminal Minds, and The Good Wife among others. He was also cast in many television movies like Bessie, Mayday, Something the Lord Made, 10000 Black Men Named George, For Love or Country, Aftershock, and Zooman. His movie credit includes No Mercy, Jackknife, Alien 3, Rudy, and A Time to Kill.
Dutton's recent projects include the 2015 movie The Perfect Guy and a Television movie, Bessie. He gained recognition for his comedy show " Roc" and also earned an NAACP Image Award for his role. Dutton won a Theatre World Award for his Broadway play Ma Rainey's Black Bottom and won an Emmy in 2002 and 2003 for Outstanding Guest Actor for roles in The Practice and Without a Trace.
He even tried out directing, debuting from HBO miniseries, The Corner in 2000. His work was appreciated highly as the miniseries won several Emmys including Best Direction and Best Miniseries. Even HBO made a deal with him to work and direct series and movies for the network.
Dutton wrote and performed a one-man play named " From Jail to Yale" including his journey as a troubled youth to succeed in the movie industry.
