California Woman, 74, Finally Wins Child Support From Ex-Husband Nearly 50 Years After Divorce

Better Late Than Never!

A California woman, 74, was recently granted thousands of dollars as child support from her ex-husband nearly 50 years after their divorce was finalized.

The woman named Toni Anderson told Good Morning America told she was left with a three-year-old daughter of the couple after she and her then-husband Donald Lenhart divorced in the 70s.

She further told she expected for the financial a s sistance from Lenhart to raise their kid but when she went to cash the $160 check he sent to her, it didn't clear. She told,

I was so excited, I will never forget. I deposited [it] in my account and it bounced.

After the first bogus check, her ex-husband never sent her his payments again. Anderson further told,

I kind of put it on the back burner and just kind of forgot about it over the years. I'm not negating the fact I was able to send my daughter to college, Paris, We traveled and had a good time. But the money runs out.

In the next 49 years, Anderson didn't receive any money from her ex-husband who was liable to pay the child support until their daughter was 21. The child support included $210 per month for a duration of 30 months, followed by payments of $160 per month until their daughter turned 21 years (who is currently 52).

Anderson said she struggled a lot on raising her daughter alone where she had to take a couple of jobs for better rearing of the child. She also said it was a detriment to her daughter as she wasn't "there for her."

But, she said, last year, she woke up at night and realized there were no statutes of limitations on child support in Calif. Then she informed her ex-husband who lived in Oregon that she was filing a legal procedure to get her unpaid child support back. The total amount would be a whopping $170,000.

Later, the longtime divorced couple settled on a $153,090 payment that also included legal fees and 10% interest on the missed payments that came out to roughly $35k.

With the whopping amount of money, now, she can retire and enjoy her golden years.
