William Theodore “Bill” Walton was born on 5th November 1952 in La Mesa, California to parents Gloria Anne and William Theodore ‘Ted’ Walton. He spent his entire childhood in La Mesa playing basketball with his brother Bruce Walton.
Bill went on to attend Helix High School located in La Mesa where he actively playing basketball. When Bill was just aged 17, he went on to play for the United States men’s national basketball team at the 1970 FIBA World Championship.

Bill then went on to attend UCLA in 1971. While Bill was at UCLA, their varsity team did not ever lose a game from the middle of his junior year of high school to the middle of his senior in college. He went on to lead UCLA to win various games.
Later in 1974, Bill announced that he was ready to be drafted in the 1974 NBA draft. Thus he was selected by the Portland Trail Blazers in the 1st round as the 1st overall pick. Bill went on to play as Center for Portland Trail Blazers.
He led his team to win various matches till 1978 when he left Blazers for San Diego /Los Angeles Clippers. He played 14 games in the 1979-80 and then went on to score a career-high of 67 points in 1984-85 seasons. Later he went on to play for Boston Celtics.
Bill had already undergone many ankle injuries and it added on quickly when he was with the Celtics thus his ankle problem became so severe that both of his ankles were surgically fused.
He was noted as the USBWA College Player of the Year, NBA’s 50 greatest players of all times, NBA Most Valuable Player, NBA blocks leader, NBA Sixth Man of the Year(1986), NBA Finals MVP, 3x National college player of the Year. His number 32 was retired by Portland Trail Blazers and also by UCLA.
