Arizona Mother Found Guilty Of Starving Her Son, 3, To Death And Storing The Body In A Toy Box
An Arizona mother was found guilty of starving her son, 3, to death and storing his body in a toy box.
The woman identified as Raquel Barreras, 44, of Tuscon was convicted of the heinous crime on Friday, 3rd May and will be formally sentenced on July 22.
The remains of the baby, Roman Barreras were discovered by landlords back in March 2014 when they went to clean up the property after Raquel was evicted of the house.
Investigators believed Roman died sometime between the spring of 2013 and January 2014. A jury in Pima County found Raquel guilty on both charges of murder and child abuse.
The Sun reported both Barrera and her husband Martin starved their child to death. Barrera couple has four other children who testified against their mother at the trial. The kids revealed that they would sneak into the family's laundry room to feed their brother crackers.
Mail Online reported the Arizona Department of Child Safety had removed his all four children from their parents after Roman's birth in July 2010 due to drug exposure. A year later, Martin Barreras was granted his son Roman's custody.
Meanwhile, Martin has also been charged with first-degree murder who is set for trial in August.
