A Woman Killed Inside An LA Trader Joe's-Suspect Taken Into Custody

A Man Armed With Pistol Killed A Woman In A Trader Joe's Shop Hours Later He Shot His Grandmother

• A female worker in a Trader Joe's shop was killed by an unnamed suspect on Saturday evening.
• The victim was identified as Melyda Corado.
• The suspect reportedly killed the girl hours later he shot his grandmother multiple times with his pistol.
• The LAPD arrested him after hours of a standoff.

A man armed with a gun killed a female employee inside a Trader Joe's shop on Saturday evening. The man, who entered the grocery store in Silver Lake, barricaded himself inside with multiple hostages before the LAPD arrested him.

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti said in a press conference that a woman inside the store was killed and the suspect wounded on his left arm while exchanging shots with police.

Further, the Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman confirmed six people of ages between 12 to 81 were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The LAPD took to their Twitter saying they had arrested the suspect.

The victim was identified as Melyda Corado; her brother, Albert Corado confirmed. He also said his sister had worked for over four years in the grocery shop.

LAPD chief, Michael Moore said around 40 people were inside the grocery while the 28-year-old suspect entered the shop. He further said the suspect had shot his grandmother and girlfriend earlier in the day and fled the scene in his grandmother's car; leading police to chase him in the car.

The chase ended when the suspect crashed the car into the pole outside of the grocery and rushed into the shop.

Barry Montgomery, the LAPD Sergeant told the suspect took his grandmother's 2015 four-door Toyota Camry Sedan and fled with his girlfriend. Suspect's cousin, Charleo Egland told the City News Service that she didn't know why he would shoot their grandmother, however, said, their grandmother didn't like his girlfriend be in their 

Egland further said the suspect didn't have his mobile phone with him but he called them from the Trader Joe's supermarket to know about his grandmother's health condition.

Hours later, president Donald Trump took to his Twitter saying that he had been watching "the LA possible hostage situation very closely. Active barricaded suspect. LAPD working with federal law enforcement."

The police reported the suspect's grandmother had undergone multiple surgeries at a local hospital, however, they didn't provide her condition.
