A Woman And Shooter Died In A Toronto Shooting On Sunday Night-13 Injured

  • A woman was killed when an anonymous shooter opened gunfire in Toronto on Sunday evening.
  • The Toronto Police confirmed that the unidentified shooter also died after an exchange of gunfire.
  • The 13 injured were taken to a local hospital where the police chief said a girl aged 8 was in critical condition.

Two people including the shooter died and 13 others injured in a shooting near a restaurant in Toronto Sunday night. Police confirmed the death of a woman and said the shooter died after an exchange of gunfire.

The Toronto Police Chief, Mark Saunders said a girl of around 8 suffered a critical injury, however, he didn't give any other information about the injuries. All of the injured were rushed to a local hospital.

Toronto police responded an emergency call at around 10 in the evening in the city's Greektown neighborhood. Toronto Police first reported two fatalities including the shooter in a Twitter post. Later, they updated the incident in a Twitter post on early Monday morning.

The police are still trying to find out the motive of the shooter, but the chief said he would not rule out terrorism. He said,

When you have this many people that are struck by gunfire, it's a grave concern. I'm not closing any doors.

John Tory, the Toronto mayor said in a statement released on Twitter condemning the shooting as "despicable", he said,

While our city will always be resilient in the face of such attacks, it doesn't mean such a cowardly act committed against our residents is any less painful

"This is an attack against innocent families and our entire city," he added.

A video shared on social media by a witness showed a man in the black ensemble walking quickly and firing three shots from the pavement to the restaurant. The witnesses described to hearing about 20-30 gunshots.

The Toronto police deployed a dozen more additional officers to deal with the shooting.
