Helicopter Crash In Eastern Nepal Kills Seven Including Tourism Minister

• The tourism minister of Nepal, Rabindra Adhikari dies in a helicopter crash on Wednesday 27th February.
• Officials reported bad weather might be the reason for Wednesday's crash.
• Six other people including the helicopter captain lost their lives in the crash.

The tourism minister of Nepal, Rabindra Adhikari, and six other people died in a helicopter crash at around 1:30 pm on Wednesday, 27th February.

Officials reported the Air Dynasty helicopter that was carrying seven people including the pilot crashed in the Taplejung district, eastern Nepal while on a trip to look at the feasibility of constructing an airport in that area.

The crash was probably caused by bad weather

Raj Kumar Chhetri, the general manager of Tribhuvan International Airport told the crash was probably caused by bad weather.

The other victims of the crash have been identified as the helicopter Captain Prabhakar KC, security personnel Arjun Ghimire, Deputy Director General of Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) Birendra Shrestha, tourism entrepreneur Ang Tshering Sherpa, Under-Secretary at the Prime Minister’s office Yubaraj Dahal, and CAAN Engineer Dhruba Das Bhochhibhaya.

Locals reported hearing a loud bang

The Chief District Officer of Taplejung, Anuj Bhandari said that the locals reported hearing a loud bang after the sight of smoke and fire in the area.

Nepal has a poor record of flight safety in its 7 decades-long periods. Around 750 people have been reported to have lost their lives in the air crashes in the Himalayan country.

Accused the Bangladeshi pilot

Just last year, a Bangladeshi airplane crashed at the Tribhuvan International Airport, killing 51 people on board. The government inquiry accused the Bangladeshi pilot and the local air traffic controller of the devastating accident.
