Lancer actor and 1960s veteran Wayne Maunder died. He was 80 years. Vermont Department of Health spokesperson confirmed the legendary actor's death to The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday, 21st November.
The spokesperson also reported that the actor died of cardiovascular disease on November 11, in Battleboro, Vermont.
Born on December 19, 1937, in New Brunswick, Canada, Wayne grew up in Bangor, Maine. He served for the U.S. Navy for a short time after his graduation from Bangor High School. Later, he studied acting under Stella Adler in New York.
Maunder was discovered by Hollywood agent Jane Oliver who later helped him get a screen test at Fox in 1966. Talking with Hollywood columnist Bob Foster in 1967, Maunder said,
I was asked if I would like to play Custer. It seemed too good to be true. I was living in a small, cheap hotel, and the word spread fast. Not until the pilot was shot and ABC bought the series did I realize how far I had come.
Wayne later portrayed Sergeant Sam MacCray opposite Mitchell Ryan on NBC drama Chase from 1973-74. His other television credits included The FBI, The Rookies, Barnaby Jones, Kung Fu, Police Story, The Streets of San Francisco among others.

Maunder is survived by his brother Lyle and Llyod. He had a son, Dylan who died at 37 in 2005 due to a drug overdose.
