Bad news for the food world! Chef Floyd Cardoz, who won season 3 of Top Chef Masters has died of the novel coronavirus.
His family confirmed his death on Wednesday, March 25, to Indian publication Scroll.in. According to the publication, the chef pa s sed away after testing positive for COVID-19.
Cardoz previously shared with his fan on March 17 that he was in the hospital with a fever.
Alongside a selfie from his hospital bed, he wrote at the time,
I was feeling feverish and hence as a precautionary measure, admitted myself into hospital in New York. I was hugely anxious about my state of health and my post was highly irresponsible causing panic in several quarters. I returned to New York on March 8th via Frankfurt.
The next day, The Hunger Inc confirmed that Cardoz tested positive for coronavirus.
The company, which runs his restaurants, said in a statement,
Floyd Cardoz currently admitted in hospital in New York, USA, tested positive for COVID-19 on March 18, 2020.
Following his pa s sing, Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi paid tribute to him via Twitter and Instagram on Wednesday.
