'The Sound of Music' Starlet Heather Menzies Dies Of Brain Cancer At 68

The Sound of Music actress Heather Menzies Urich has died of brain cancer at 68 on Sunday, 24th December, her son Ryan Urich confirmed CNN.

Menzies Urich, who played Louisa von Trapp in the 1965 movie, was diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme about a month ago and her health declined rapidly, said her son Ryan Urich.

Ryan told his mother died Sunday at a family home in Canada surrounded by loved ones. He told CNN,

The most important thing was my mom was an actress, talented dancer (and) really avid in arts and theater. She had this unbelievable network of friends.

Actress Menzies started her career as a teen when she played Louisa. As an adult actress, she worked Outside In and television shows such as Spenser: For Hire.  

The Toronto-born actress was married to actor Robert Urich in 1975. Urich and Menzies first met during the filming of a commercial in which they got married. Her husband Rob Urich died in 2002 after having three children. Menzies was married to John Cluett in 1969 but divorced four years later without having any kids.
