Emmy-Winning Television Producer Vincenzo Labella Dies At 93

The Emmy-winning miniseries Marco Polo producer and writer Vincenzo Labella died at the age of 93, on Saturday, July 28 in Los Angeles.

The veteran producer's daughter, Jennifer De Maio confirmed his death saying her father died peacefully on July 28 at his home. He died of natural causes.

Born in Vatican City in 1925,  he started out as a historian, journalist, and doc u mentarian. His career in the film industry began in 1961 when he worked as an advisor in Barabbas which later earned him several new projects.

Labella produced the 1977 NBC miniseries Jesus of Nazareth which starred Robert Powell, Christopher Plummer, Laurence Olivier, and Anne Bancroft. The film earned an-Emmy nomination for Outstanding special drama in 1978.

Labella gained a huge fame for his produced and written Marco Polo which won him Emmy for Outstanding Miniseries. Lately, Vincenzo worked in The Wonders of the Vatican Library in 2004.

The veteran television producer and writer is survived by his daughter Jennifer, wife Sue, daughters Monica, and Kerstin and grandchildren Martin, Benjamin, Simone, Jacob, Matteo, Giulia, Monica and Julian.
