Actor Stefan Karl Stefansson, known as villain Robbie Rotten in Lazy Town died at 43 after a two-year-long battle with bile duct cancer, multiple sites reported.
Stefansson, who rose to prominence for his role on the children's show which ran from 2002 to 2014, died on Tuesday in Iceland at around 8:10 a.m local time.
BBC reported Stefansson was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2016 which he removed with a surgery. His wife Steinunn announced his death in a statement to People where she said,
My beloved, Stefan Karl Stefansson, 43, has pa s sed away after battling aggressive bile duct cancer for two years.
She continued,
Per Stefan's wishes, there will be no funeral. His earthly remains will be scattered in secrecy in a distant ocean. Stefan's family wants to express their gratitude for the support and warmth received in recent years and to express their deepest sympathy to the many friends and fans of Stefan Karl.
The actor used to take to his Instagram to post several photos from his hospital sessions, including a thumbs-up-photo in November 2016 which he captioned "Thank you for the support."
The father of four celebrated the end of his chemotherapy treatment in February 2017 which he also shared on Instagram which he captioned "All done with chemo for now."
In June, Stefansson thanked his fans on Instagram for their continuous support. He told,
From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for the support you provide me. You give me hope and you all move me.
Stefansson is survived by his wife Steinunn Ólína Þorsteinsdóttir and four children that he shared with her.
