Kai, whose real name is Caleb McGillvary, will have to serve at least 85% of his sentence as imposed in the state Superior Court in Union Country.

McGillvary was convicted last month of killing 73-year-old attorney Joseph Galfy at his New Jersey home in May 2013. McGillvary had been staying in Galfy's home after the two met in NYC for the first time.

Weeks after Galfy's death, a worker at Starbucks in Philadelphia recognized him and was arrested subsequently at a bus station.

McGillvary initially gained fame after interviewing in an attack on a California utility worker. In the interview, he described using a hatchet to fend off a further attack on two women who were struck with a car.
