Synopsis

Maya April Moore, an American WNBA player, is a forward of Minnesota Lynx of the WNBA (Women’s National Basketball Association). She has also played with the national team of United States and has won four championships; 2010 and 2014 FIBA World championships- 2012 and 2016 Olympics. 

Early Life and Career

Maya April Moore was born on June 11, 1989, in Jefferson City, Missouri to Mike Dabney who played collegiate basketball for Rutgers University in the 1970s. However; Dabney was not a part of Moore’s life. She holds an American nationality and African-American ethnicity. 

She spent most of her childhood days in Missouri with her young sister Olivia Dabney is a basketball player for Rutgers Preparatory School and is a rising star in New Jersey and her other sister Ashley Dabney who was a track and field athlete in college. 

Moore received her high school diploma from Collins Hill High School, in Gwinnett County, near Suwanee, Georgia. Moore was interested in basketball since the age of 3. She was a four-year starter at Collins.

During her junior year in 2005–06, Moor went on to average 23.2 points, 11.3 rebounds, 4.6 a s sists and 5.4 steals at Collins Hill. For her exceptional performance, Moore was the winner of the 2006 and 2007 Naismith Prep Player of the Year.

In 2009 and 2010, Moore played forward for the UConn women's basketball team and also won back to back national championships. She was successively selected as the John Wooden Award winner in 2009. In the later seasons to come; Moore led Connecticut to its second straight national championship.

Later in the 2010–11 seasons, she led the Huskies to an NCAA both-gender record of 90 which was noted. Following her marvelous performance, Moore became the first female basketball player to sign with Jordan Brand on May 18, 2011.

Moore decided that she was ready to be drafted and thus became the first overall pick in the 2011 WNBA Draft, and signed with the Minnesota Lynx team.

Moore turned out to become the third-leading scorer on the team during the regular season. She then helped lead her team to its first WNBA championship.

She has continued to lead Lynx and other overseas teams in Europe and China to many championships wins. She won her second WNBA championship in 2013. She currently plays for the Minnesota Lynx. 

Personal Life

Maya Moore is an unmarried woman. She is not dating anyone currently (at least publicly). In many interviews, she has reluctant to reveal about her dating life and she has mentioned that basketball is everything for her.

Some online sources claimed that she is allegedly gay but, she has not addressed this rumor. She follows Christian religion. In 2015, Forbes listed her to Forbes’ 30 Under 30: The sports World’s Brightest Young Stars. 

Moore is reluctant on speaking about her personal life. Not much is known about her dating history to the public and the media. She is too young to get married.
