Modify Tyler Perry
The multi talented Tyler Perry is well known for creating and performing in drag the prominent Madea character who is a lofty and thuggish tough elderly woman. Perry is an eminent American director, screenwriter, play writer, producer, author and an actor. Perry has written and produced many shows since the 1990s. He has created many television series including Tyler Perry’s House of Payne. Several of Ty6ler’s stage play films have been made into professional films. Perry had an exclusive multi-year partnership with the Oprah Winfrey Network in order to bring scripted television to the OWN network. He was named the highest paid man in entertainment by Forbes in 2011 when he earned $130 million between May 2010 and 2011. Tyler is the recipient of two BET Comedy Awards both for his acting and writing in Diary of a Mad Black Woman. He has bagged many nominations for MTV Awards, Image Awards, Black Reel Awards and Black Movie Awards. Tyler Perry was born Emmitt Perry, Jr. on 13th September 1969 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Tyler lived with his father Emmitt Perry, Sr. (a Carpenter), mother Willie Maxine Perry and three siblings. Tyler’s father was ruthless and beat his children a lot. In order to get away from his father’s beating, Tyler once attempted suicide. While he was 16 years old, Tyler legally changed his name from Emmitt to Tyler in order to distance himself from his father. Later in his life, Tyler confirmed that he was molested as a child by a friend’s mother when he was 10 and by three other men. He later learned that his own father had molested his friend. Tyler recently took a DNA test that showed that Emmitt Sr. isn’t his biological father. Tyler earned a GED but has not completed his high school. He became inspired by the Oprah Winfrey Show and started writing a series of letters to himself that later went on to become the base of the musical named I Know I’ve Been changed. He moved to Atlanta in 1990 and after two years I Know I’ve Been Changed was performed at a community theater. It was a critical and financial failure. When he was 28 years old, Tyler retooled and restaged the play in Atlanta’s House of Blue Theatre. Then he did the same at the Fox Theatre. By 2005 Tyler had became very famous and Forbes reported in 2005 that the play had sold more than $100 million in tickets, $30 million in videos and $20 million in merchandise. Perry signed with Lions Gate Entertainment which co-produces and distributes his films. Perry keeps hold of full copyright ownership under the corporate name Very Perry Films. Perry produced his first film named Diary of a Mad Black Woman for which he received a $5.5 million budget and earned $50.6 million domestically. He then produced Daddy’s Little Girl which was released on 14th February 2007 and earned over $31 million. Tyler then wrote, produced,directed and starred in the film Why Did I Get Married?, which was released on October 12 2007. Next “The Family That Preys” released on 12th September 2008. He then went on to act as Starfleet Academy commandant Admiral Barnett in Star Trek as per the request of director J.J. Abrams. Again Tyler wrote, directed and starred in 2009’s I Can Do Bad All By Myself. Then on April 2 2010, the sequel to “Why Did I Get Married?” named “Why Did I Get Married Too?” released. Then on November 5 2010 Tyler released a film adaptation of Ntozake Shange’s 1975 choreopoem For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf which was directed by him. Then again he released his next film “Good Deeds” which was written, directed and starred by him. On March 29 2013, Tyler released his thirteenth film named Temptation: Confession of a Marriage Counselor. He then directed the movie, The Single Moms Club which was released on 14th March 2014. Perry produced the television series named Tyler Perry’s House of Payne that ran for 8 seasons starting from 21st June 2006. The sitcom Meet the Browns that premiered on TBS on 7th January 2009. After agreeing an exclusive multi-year partnership with The Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) on October2, 2012, Tyler featured his drama series named The Haves and the Have Nots and the sitcom Love Thy Neighbor. The Have and the Have Nots became the most watched program in all of cable television on 14th February 2014. Perry’s first book Don’t Make a Black woman Take Off Her Earring: Madea’s Uninhibited Commentaries on Love and Life was voted Book of the Year Best Humor Book at the 2006 Quill Awards. Tyler Perry stands tall at the height of 6 feet 5 inches and is hefty looking. Tyler is an African American and his ethnicity is black. His sexuality is straight but due to his cross-dressing black woman character Madea, Tyler is often mistaken for being gay. Tyler is probably the best looking African American actor when he is shirtless as his body is very masculine. Perry is good friends with Janet Jackson, Will Smith and Oprah Winfrey. His works include mostly theology and social behavior that indicates of predominantly Black church culture and child abuse. Perry bought a 17 acre estate based in Buckhead, Atlanta in 2007 while in 2013 his company bought a 1100 acres in Manchester, Georgia. 65 children from Philadelphia were sponsored by Perry for a day camp to visit Walt Disney World. Tyler’s mother passed away at the age of 64 on December 8 2009 due to an illness. Perry bought Dean Gardens in August 2010 which is a 58 acre estate in Atlanta. Perry’s dating history is not so long with only 3 women and one of which is a rumor. Tyler began dating Tasha Smith who is 2 years younger than him. Then in 2006 Tyler and Tyra Banks were spotted dining out together which sparked rumors of an alleged romance. Both the parties denied it but the “hanging out together” carried on and so did the rumors. In 2007 Tyler began dating Gelila Bekele who is 15 years younger than him. Perry very recently announced that he was expecting a child with his girlfriend Gelila. He currently lives and works in Southwest Atlanta and operates the Tyler Perry movies and his TV studio.
