Dana Elaine Owens alias Queen Latifah is a multitalented person who is one of the three hip-hop artists to be nominated for an Academy Award in an acting category. She is an American singer, songwriter, actress, rapper, model, television producer, record producer, comedienne, and moreover a talk show host. Queen Latifah is famous for her own talk show titled “The Queen Latifah Show”.  

Latifah has bagged many nominations counting BET, Emmy, Academy, and Screen Actors Guild, Golden Globe, etc. Queen Latifah has won a Grammy also two Image Awards along with a Golden Globe and two Screen Actors Guild Awards for her work in cinema, television, and music as well.

Queen Latifah was born Dana Elaine Owens was born on 18th March 1970 in Newark, New Jersey, the United States.

She holds an American nationality and her ethnicity is Afro-American. As of May 2022, her age is 52 and she has a height of 5 feet 10 inches.

and was raised in East Orange, New Jersey. Latifah’s mother Rita ( a teacher) and father Lancelot Owens, Sr.( a police officer) got divorced when she was 10 years old.

Latifah joined Catholic School in Newark and was raised in the Baptist faith. Latifah had an athletic body and stood tall at the height of 5 feet 10 inches so she was a power forward on her high school girls’ basketball team. When she was in high school, Latifah performed the number “Home “from the musical The Wiz in a play.

She began beatboxing for the hip-hop group Ladies Fresh and was one of the members of the inventive adaptation of the Flavor Unit.

Dante Ross (Tommy Boy Music employee) signed Latifah and issued her first single “Wrath of My Madness” in 1988.

Latifah then began giving numerous singles. Her songs comprised topics like domestic violence, harassment on the street, and various relationship problems. In 1989, Latifah released her first album All Hail the Queen when she was just nineteen years old. She went on releasing hit albums.

In 1998, Latifah released her fourth hip-hop album Order in the Court. This particular album was released by Motown Records. She then also became a member of the hip-hop community named Native Tongues. Latifah went on with her music career and released her album The Dana Owens in 2004.

Nominated For Grammy

Again, Latifah released an album named Trav’lin Light in 2007. This Album bagged her Grammy nomination for “Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album”. Latifah released another of her album named Persona in 2009. Her songs are to date very famous.

Latifah went on to work in Television and first starred on FOX’s sitcom, Living Single from 1993 to 1998. She was given supporting roles in the 1991 and 1992 films House Party 2, Juice, and Jungle Fever. Then in 1999, she launched her own talk show titled, The Queen Latifah Show which aired till 2001.

Nominated For Academy 

Latifah appeared once in a while in the second season of NBC’s The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. She then appeared in 1996 Set it Off and then in the film Living Out Loud. She also appeared in the 1999 movie The Bone Collector which was a box office hit.

She was then cast in a musical film named “Mama” Morton in Chicago and she subsequently bagged the Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress category making her one of the only three hip-hop artists to get an Academy nomination in the acting category.

She was later seen in the 2003 box office hit movie Bringing Down the House. Then three years later she appeared in the romantic comedy/drama named Last Holiday.

In the same year, she voiced in the animated film, Ice Age: The Meltdown as Ellie. The next year she appeared in the hit Hairspray. In 2007, Latifah emerged as an HIV-positive woman in the film named Life Support which bagged her a Golden Globe Award, Screen Actors Guild award, and an Emmy.

On January 4, 2006, Latifah got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She premiered her own show, The Queen Latifah Show on 16th September 2013. She is currently a spokesperson for many companies like Pizza Hut, Jenny Craig, CoverGirl cosmetics, and Curvation ladies' underwear. She represents her very own CoverGirl Queen Collection. Latifah’s perfume line named queen and Queen of Hearts is also quite famous.

Lancelot Jr, Latifah’s older brother was killed in a motorcycle accident that was recently bought by her for him so Latifah to date hangs the key of the motorcycle around her neck. She discussed her brother’s death, and drug abuse in her 1999 autobiography named Ladies First: Revelations of a Strong Woman.

Latifah was subsequently arrested for driving under influence in Los Angeles County and was placed for about 3 years on probation. She had breast reduction surgery in 2003 that decreased her F-size breast to a DD cup size as a way to reduce back and shoulder pain.

She has been a resident of New Jersey, Colts Neck, Wayne, and Beverly Hills, California. Latifah was first rumored to be dating Debbie Allen in the early 1990s. Then in February 1992, it was made official that she was dating Kandu Isaacs but their relationship later resulted in a separation before Isaacs could be Latifah’s husband.

Then again in December 2002, Latifah got into a relationship with a fitness instructor, Jeannette Jenkins. The couple was together for 8 years before finally separating. Their reason for separation is rumored to be the world-famous dancer and choreographer, Eboni Nichols.

Eventually, Latifah got into a relationship with Eboni. The couple first met when Eboni was putting up a routine for Latifah’s guest appearance on the show “Dancing with the Stars”. There have been alleged rumors that the couple is setting a date to get married.
