Natalie Jane Imbruglia is an Australian songwriter, singer, model, and actress. She is known for her role as Beth Brennan in a popular soap opera, Neighbours in the early 1990s.

Early Life

Imbruglia was born as on 4th February 1975 in Sydney, Australia. She is the daughter of Elliot Imbruglia and Maxene Anderson. Her father is of Italian descent whereas her mother is of Anglo-Australian. She is an Australian by birth and later became a British citizen. She belongs to the mixed ethnicity.

Imbruglia is the second child among four. She grew up in Berkley Vale in New South Wales. She is the elder sister of singer-songwriter, Laura Imbruglia. She became a naturalized British citizen on February 28, 2013.

At the age of 15, she moved with her family to Sydney. At the early age of two, she started dancing. Later on, she had also learned tap, ballet, and Highland dancing to make a career in dance. 

Career

Imbruglia started her career in 1989. She received MTV Awards for Best New Artist during that year. After she recorded an album named Glorious (1997-2007), she signed a contract with BMG for a four-album record deal. 

In 1997, Imbruglia internationally released her first single named Torn. In November 1997 the single instantly became one of the greatest hit of the 90s which had reached number 2 in UK Singles Chart and became number one around the world on airplay.

The song also became number one for 14 weeks on the Billboard Airplay chart. Soon After, the song, Torn was released in the US could not b bought though in CDs. This song reached to rank one soon on the Airplay chart, and it stayed for 14 weeks. This song had done exceptionally well as her single, and her song had also topped the Adult Top 40 charts.

Imbruglia released her next album named White Lies Island in 2001. The album was named after the island where her main home is situated. Her third album was ready to be released in November 2003, but due to her songs not friendly with radio her record label refused to release the album.

In 2004 she signed with Brightside Recordings. Finally, she released her third album named Counting Down the Days in 2005. The album entered the top 40 official UK charts. She released her fourth album, Come to Life in 2009.

Personal life

Imbruglia has reached the age 42 now. She has auditioned in several Australian television commercials in her career. She has appeared in the brands like Coca-Cola and an Australian snack, Twisties.

Imbruglia had been engaged with her Daniel Johns, a Silverchair frontman with whom she had an affair for 3 and half years. The couple finally got married on December 31, 2003, in Port Douglas, Queensland in Australia.

Imbruglia lived mainly in Windsor, England, while her husband, Johns lived in Newcastle, Australia. They divorced on January 4, 2008, saying that they lived too far apart. Later, she dated American actor, David Schwimmer and a local footballer called Liam in Coventry.

Imbruglia has won many awards in her career. She has won many awards for her notable works in Torn. She became the winner of MTV Video Music Awards for Best New Artist in 1998.

Her other Awards include MTV Europe Music Awards for Best Song, Billboard Music Award for Adult Top 40 Track of the Year, ARIA Music Awards for Best Australian Single, ARIA Music Awards for Best Australian Debut Single.

In 1999, Imbruglia won BRIT Awards for Best International Newcomer for the song, Left of The Middle. In 2005, she won PPL Awards for Most Performed Track UK for Shiver.

Social Works

Imbruglia is an amba s sador for Virgin Unite, an independent charitable arm of the Virgin Group. This charitable organization supports campaigns to end poverty and to bring attention to obstetric fistula.

 

Apart from that, she has appeared in a sketch at the Secret Policeman's Ball for Amnesty International on October 31, 2006. She has spoken for clinical depression to raise awareness about the disorder.

In 2008, Imbruglia supported the Fashion Targets Breast Cancer campaign in support of Breakthrough Breast Cancer, alongside comedian, Alan Carr, DJ & presenter, Edith Bowman, actress, Anna Friel and a British model, Twiggy.
