Celine Dion is a Canadian singer and a businessperson. She is widely recognized for her song "My Heart Will Go On", which is also the main love theme song to the blockbuster movie, Titanic. She first earned international recognition by winning both Yamaha World Popular Song Festival and Eurovision Song Contest representing Switzerland.

Early Life 

Dion was born on March 30, 1968, in Charlemagne, Quebec, Canada. She is the daughter born to Thérèse Tanguay Dion (her mother) and Adhémar-Charles Dion (her father). Her father was a butcher, whereas her mother was a homemaker.

As far her ethnicity, she is of French-Canadian descent holding a Canadian nationality. She is the youngest of the 14 children in the family. She grew up in a Roman Catholic background in a poor but a happy family.

Dion belongs to the family from the musical background. She, at the age of 12, collaborated with her mother and her brother, Jacques to write and compose her first song, "Ce n'était qu'un rêve," meaning "It Was Only a Dream."

Career

Dion rose to success when she represented Switzerland in the Eurovision Contest in 1988. She, at the age of 18, was inspired by Michael Jackson after watching his performances.

Dion earned massive popularity, serving as the love theme for the 1997 blockbuster movie, Titanic. The song topped the charts across the world becoming her signature song. The song successfully won the Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Original Song. Dion had collaborated with various artists of the music industry such as Adele, Rihanna and so on. In May 2017, she paid homage to London's terror victims. Terrorists attacked during pop diva Arian Grande's concert. 

The song amassed her two Grammy Awards for "Best Female Pop Vocal Performance" and the most coveted "Record of the Year." Talking about her personal life, Dion was married to René Angélil, a Canadian musical producer, and singer. She first met her husband in 1980, when she was 12, and her husband was 38. The couple started a relationship in 1987 and had an affair for several of years.

Dion got engaged to René in 1991. They finally tied their knot on December 17, 1994, at Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal, Quebec. They renewed their wedding vows on January 5, 2000, in Las Vegas.

Dion decided to use in-vitro fertilization because of years of failed attempts to conceive. She had two small operations in May 2000, at a fertility clinic in New York to improve her chances of conceiving.

Dion gave birth to their first child, a son named René-Charles Angelil on January 25, 2001. Her husband made an announcement in May 2010 that she was 14 weeks pregnant with twins after the sixth treatment of in-vitro fertilization.

The couple welcomed the twins on October 23, 2010, at 11:11 and 11:12 am respectively, at St. May’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach, Florida. The twins were named Eddy, after her favorite French songwriter, Eddy Marnay, who had also produced her first five albums, and Nelson, after former South African President Nelson Mandela.

Unfortunately, her husband, René died on January 14, 2016. He died from complications of cancer. Her brother also died of cancer at the 59, two days later.

Social Works

Dion has actively supported several charity organizations, worldwide. She has contributed several organizations including Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the Diana Princess of Wales Memorial Fund, T.J. Martell Foundation, and many health and educational campaigns.

Dion has donated $1 million to the victims of the storm during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. She also held a fund-raising event for the victims of the 2004 Asian tsunami, which subsequently raised more than $1 million.
