Early Life And Education Of Carol Vorderman

Carol Vorderman was born Carol Jean Vorderman on 24 December 1960 in Bedford, Bedfordshire England under the birth sign Capricorn. She is British by nationality and belongs to Dutch-Welsh ethnic descent.

Carol is the youngest of three children born to her parents. Her father Anton ‘Tony’ Vorderman is Dutch while her mother Edwin Jean is Welsh. Her parents split after just three weeks of her birth and her mother took Carol and her siblings to the town of Prestatyn, North Wales. She and her siblings, a brother  Anton Vorderman and a sister Trixie Vorderman were brought there by their single mother.

Afer the divorce of her parents, she never saw her father until she own self-was 42 years old. Her mother married an Italian immigrant, Armido Rizzi after separating from her father. Her mother and her stepfather got a divorce after a decade. Later, her biological father again married her mother.

Vorderman went to Blessed Edward Jones High School in Rhyl. At the age of 17, she attended Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge where she studied Engineering. At the time, she became one of the youngest women admitted in the college. 

Carol Vorderman's Career

Carol Vorderman started her career as a junior civil engineer at Dinorwig Power Station in Wales. Later she was a graduate management trainee in Leeds. She also was a backing singer in the Leeds-based pop group Dawn Chorus and the Blue Tits. During 1984\1985 she appeared regularly on the Peter Levy show on Radio Aire.

Vorderman’s mother submitted an application on behalf of Carol to appear as co-host on a quiz show for the fledgling fourth channel after seeing a newspaper advertisement about it asking precisely for a woman with good mathematical skills. She appeared along with Richard Whiteley on Countdown on Channel 4.

But Richard pa s sed away in June 2005. Gradually she changed the Pattern of the show and her intellect was revealed in the show. Ultimately she became one of the highest paid women in Britain earning an estimated 1 million pound sterling a year. She declined the offer to solo present the show Countdown instead she searched for a new co-host and in October 2005, Des Lynam replaced the late Richard Whitely. In 2007 Des O’Connor replaced Lynam but Vorderman continued to host the show.

Vorderman recorded her last Countdown Show on 13 November 2008 which was aired on 12 December 2008. After she left Countdown with 26 years of contribution to the show she continued to write her column to the British magazine Reveal. She is the current presenter of the annual Pride of Britain Awards aired by ITV. She is the host of the show since 1999, the year of establishment. She is currently an occasional host of ITV’s Loose Women.

She had newspaper columns in ‘The Daily Telegraph’ and in the ‘Daily Mirror’. The columns were on internet topics. Detox for Life, her book on Detox diets sold over a million copies. She also has launched various commercial ventures like Sudoku products, mind training games, video games for play station 2etc. 

Besides, Vorderman also published several books and articles as well.

Carol is an honorary fellow of Bangor University in North Wales and also has received an Honorary Degree (MA) by the University of Bath. In 2011 she was voted UK Female Rear of the Year. In June 2000, for her “Services to broadcasting” in the Queen’s Birthday Honors she was honored as a member of
the order of the British Empire (MBE).

Carol Vorderman's Personal Life And Daughter

Carol Vorderman is married twice. At first, she married in 1985 to Christopher Mather at the age of 24. Christopher was a Royal Navy officer and former international rugby league player. The marriage did not last more than a year and the couple got a divorce.

After separating from her first husband, Vorderman tied the knot once again with a management consultant Patrick King in 1990. The couple shares two children, a daughter Katie King (1992) and a son Cameron King (1997). The relationship between teh couple did not last long and separated in 2000.

Later, she had a live-in relationship with Daily Mail columnist and PR consultant Des Kelly for five years. They split in December 2006. She then dating Graham Duff who is an RAF Red Arrows and is14 years junior to Carol. The couple ended their relationship soon. Henceforth, she started living with her son and daughter in her Bristol home.
