Manilow is the son of Edna Manilow and Harold Pincus. He is of Irish-American ancestry and is of the Jewish faith.

Manilow was raised in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, where he studied at the Eastern District High School and graduated in 1961. The same year, he enrolled at the Cty College of New York.

 Later Manilow graduated from there and entered the New York College of Music. At the same time, he also worked at CBS to pay his all expenses.

Barry Manilow married twice in his life. He first married his high school sweetheart Susan Deixler. Manilow and Deixler began dating when Deixler was a high school junior, and he was a senior. The two were different in school while Deixler was outgoing, Manilow tended to Stick with a few close friends.

Soon, the young couple started talking about their marriage and got married in 1964 at the judge’s chambers in City Hall during their lunch break before returning to work for the day.
