Iniesta traveled there with Andres Iniesta parents and visited La Masia, the Spanish farmhouse where the team houses their young players; the trip convinced them to enroll Iniesta in the Barcelona youth ranks. Iniesta’s youth career began in the Albacete Balompie academy which the young footballer joined in 1994 after a trial. During two years Andres practiced in the club’s academy as well as played in matches for the club’s youth team. In 1996, Iniesta was spotted by FC Barcelona scouts who, in their turn, invited him on trial to the club. After a trial match scouts had no doubt Andres should join the FC Barcelona academy.

Till 2000 Andres Iniesta has been one of the best academy students of his age which gave him an opportunity to sign a professional contract with the club. After joining Barca from Albacete as a 12-year-old, Iniesta was quickly picked out as a special talent at an early age by none other than Pep Guardiola, with the then-Barca midfielder and current manager famously telling Xavi: "You're going to retire me. This lad is going to retire us all." But Iniesta's quiet approach and willingness to play in a variety of positions meant his contribution was often overlooked in his early years. But in recent times his humble approach has only further endeared him to a support that revels in watching him on a weekly basis.

 The pinnacle of Iniesta's career came during the 2010 FIFA World Cup final vs. Holland when he knocked home a goal in extra time to give Spain its first World Cup championship. At the end of the year, he finished second to teammate Messi for soccer's biggest individual prize, the Ballon d'Or. Spain made history as the first team to win three successive major international tournaments with its Euro 2012 victory, and Iniesta was named Player of the Tournament.

Later that summer, he beat out two of soccer's most renowned scorers, Messi and Real Madrid striker Cristiano Ronaldo, to win the UEFA Best Player in Europe Award. Iniesta enjoyed an early taste of international success with the junior national team, leading Spain to victories at the UEFA European Under-17 Championship in 2001 and the Under-19 Championship the following year. He helped Barcelona win the league title in his first season as a regular in 2004-05, but truly emerged as a vital contributor when he stepped in for injured midfielder Xavi Hernandez and sparked Barcelona to a La Liga and Champions League double the following year.
